Hawaii Electric Light Co., KTA Super Stores and KWXX Radio are helping folks go green by supporting the use of reuseable shopping bags. Through this partnership, events are being held islandwide that feature shopping bag exchanges, energy efficiency and conservation education, and recycling at four locations across the island.
At the Three Bag Re-bag, customers can swap three plastic bags to receive a re-useable shopping tote. Each person can receive up to three reuseable shopping bags in exhange for nine plastic shopping bags. Please tie the plastic bags in a knot before exchanging them at the event.
“We are proud to be partnering with KTA, KWXX and various schools to help Hawaii Island residents learn about recycling and energy efficiency,” said Kenyan Beals, HELCO educational coordinator. “These events will help cut down on plastic rubbish, save energy, and save a little money, too.”
At these events, area schools will also be doing a CFL exchange. Students from Pahoa High School, Parker School and Kahakai Elementary School will be on hand to swap old-fashioned incandescent bulbs for CFLs.
Friday events will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Event dates and locations are as follows: Friday, April 13, at KTA Puainako; Saturday, April 14, at KTA Waimea; Friday, April 20, at Waikoloa Village Market; Saturday, April 21, at KTA Kailua-Kona.
